Garry Chalk and David Kaye confirmed for BotCon 2012!

And the rumors swirl as to why…

BotCon has announced via their website that Transformers veterans Garry Chalk and David Kaye have been confirmed as guests for this year’s event, to be held in late April.

As there’s no Beast Wars fiction really going on right now, and there’s no related anniversary for the subfranchise, many are scratching their heads as to why these two have been invited, other than just generally inviting guests who are available for what is an otherwise “off” year for the movies, or any sort of Transformers universe anniversay.

Well, Geewunner has been privvy to a rumor that BotCon is attempting to gather every actor who has portrayed Optimus Prime, in one form or another, under one roof.  Obviously, Chalk played Optimus Primal in Beast Wars, and Kaye, more notable as Megatron is that series, also did a stint as Prime in the recent Animated series.

Of course, this is just a rumor, but if true, this means that the convention would have to secure the original and current Optimus Prime, Peter Cullen as well as Neil Kaplan, who voice the fire truck version from Robots In Disguise.  The coming weeks will reveal all.

Geewunner has contacted Neil Kaplan, and he has denied being contacted by BotCon.  He says he hasn’t heard from them since his appearance at 2002’s event.  So it looks like the rumor is false.  But there’s still time, right…?
